Jigger & Pony IDENTITY menuzine: A new way to think about menu design, brand journey and cocktails

Jigger and Pony celebrated its 10th anniversary last year.

Singapore – Award-winning and acclaimed cocktail bar Jigger & Pony introduces IDENTITY, a themed menuzine that highlights its development over the past ten years since its founding. IDENTITY features a thoughtfully crafted drinks list with compelling and accessible narratives for cocktail aficionados.

What is the theme behind IDENTITY?

IDENTITY traces the evolution of Jigger & Pony that has formed its identity over the past ten years, and more importantly, poses questions as to what the future holds for the bar, the bar community, and cocktail lovers.

A little behind the scenes to the making of the menu

It took the team eight months to create IDENTITY, a remarkable 68-page menuzine that was totally designed in-house. Emily Seow, the team’s lead for marketing and communications, was responsible for helming its launch. This year’s menuzine is accompanied by a companion coffee table book that delves deeper into the bar’s cocktail concept.

What does Jigger & Pony serve?

Jigger & Pony offers over 20 cocktails that range from redefined cocktails and innovative tipples to punch bowls for sharing. All cocktails at Jigger & Pony are priced at S$28++ and non-alcoholic cocktails at S$22++. For reservations, here

A word from Uno Jang, Bar Manager of Jigger & Pony
Uno Jang, Bar Manager of Jigger & Pony

“Where are you from? What do you do? What are you passionate about? These are questions commonly asked about one’s identity. But, identity is more than who we are, it’s also the questions we are asking about the future – our aspirations, visions, fears, and concerns. It’s also who we want to be in the future,” says Uno Jang, Bar Manager of Jigger & Pony.

“Each cocktail in this menu highlights our strengths, diversities of ideas we stand for, and the stories of our bar, bartenders and community – all of which contribute to our identity.”

“I still don’t have answers. But by asking many questions in this new menu, we have crafted cocktails that show the importance of pushing ourselves even further”

Also, Jigger Pony launched a new visual identity!

A striking new visual identity that ushers in a new age of Jigger & Pony together with the release of IDENTITY. Jigger & Pony’s classic bar tool’s logo has been modernised with a new logotype that is instantly recognised, and easily applicable.

Part of the identity refresh also includes new chore jacket-inspired uniforms for the team. Inspired by 1800s France, where working conditions called for more durable clothing, the progressive ideals and gender fluid appeal of the clothing finds alignment with the team.

…to get you started on your liberation journey at Jigger & Pony

A Celebration of Community

Super Lemon Highball, Jigger and Pony

The Jigger & Pony team created the Super Lemon Highball as a tribute to Singapore’s thriving and close-knit bar scene. This cocktail was created using the Iain McPherson of Panda & Sons in Edinburgh’s freezing method. Freshly squeezed lemon juice is frozen to extract lemon water, which is then combined with Hokkaido ultra soft water, Suntory World Whisky AO, and blended for 72 hours using the maewari technique. A drink enjoyed by everyone regardless of culture, background, colour, personal preference.

Championing Sustainability

Ugly Tomatoes, Jigger & Pony

Initiatives like zero waste and upcycling are challenging to implement in high volume bars with large-scale operations like Jigger & Pony. With Ugly Tomatoes, a cocktail created to celebrate flaws, promote biodiversity, and encourage species conservation, the team has therefore made a unique yet quantifiable progress.

It uses heirloom beefsteak tomatoes with a B grade, which are trucked in from Malaysia’s Genting Highlands since they are too “ugly” to be sold to customers. Shaken with Hapusa Himalayan Gin and housemade kummel, the sweet and sour beverage is served in Kimura Crumple glassware, whose wavy silhouette once more emphasises that shape really doesn’t matter.

Something for everyone, including non-alcoholic drinkers

Pear & Hops, Jigger & Pony

Jigger & Pony also takes a progressive approach to non-alcoholic cocktails in IDENTITY.

Constructed with the same amount of craftsmanship and thought as any other cocktail, the non-alcoholic category features three drinks that do not compromise on taste and affords a sense of liberation.

While Coffee & Cacao is a no-ABV option for Negroni aficionados, the refreshing Pear & Hops incorporates Seedlip Spice for subtle hints of spices and herbaceous fragrances that mix well with the natural sweetness of pear and sharpness of hops.

Working hand-in-hand with The Producer Next Door

Honey Magnum, Jigger & Pony

The team has collaborated with local farmers in the IDENTITY project’s newest phase of collaborations. Featuring Nutrinest, a uniquely urban bee garden apiary, founded by Singapore’s passionate “Bee Man” Xavier Tan. Tan is passionate about saving bees and moves beehives to his eco-garden.

Raw honey from his hives is included in the Honey Magnum, which also includes Woodford Reserve Bourbon that is paired with strawberry wine and beetroot. Then, beeswax is used to age it, giving it a smoother mouthfeel. To honour the diligent bees and their terroir, the crew aspires to obtain local honey in for future guest shifts.

Always pushing boundaries

The Godfather, Jigger & Pony

The Godfather has been updated with elements that were not present when it was first created. The team blends naturally sweet akai umeshu with nuanced plum kernel spirit from Empirical Spirits to create a progressive, home-made amaretto that has a better balance and more authentic flavour. Finished off with a smoked pink almond praline with stirred Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch, the result is rich, sweet and salty alchemy.

Ten years is only the beginning for Jigger & Pony!

Jigger & Pony was most recently awarded Best Bar in Asia at the prestigious World’s 50 Best Bars 2022, ranking at No. 12, and was awarded No. 2 at Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2022.
