Kuala Lumpur – Women in the F&B industry have historically been underrepresented in roles such as producers, operators, front and back of house, barbacks, sous chefs, pastry chefs, PR and marketing, supply chains, and administration.
This International Women’s Day 2023, what we’d like to address is the scarcity of media attention devoted to unsung women heroes, and in this regard, there is still much room for improvement. In partnership with drinks online media platforms Thirstmag.com, we at Set the Tables are banding together this year in championing the unsung women heroes in the industry.
Calling all industry friends, we would love to hear your stories and let’s change the narrative this year! Here’s how:
The stories we want to feature this IWDDE 2023 are…
What you’re doing to show your appreciation and create a safe space for your female employees (or customers). Examples: Equal pay, flexibility hours for mothers; period day off; pads in toilet etc.
Spotlight on the women in your establishments that is working tirelessly behind the scenes
Story submission deadline: 24 February 2023. Registration HERE!

Create a menu/dish/drink or select an existing dish/drink revolving around the objective in 6.1.
Choose a period to run the menu. It can be the whole month of March or any week in March.
Will there be any sponsorship for outlets?
Thirstmag and Set The Tables are approaching brands for sponsorship. Having sponsors mean we can do more in terms of helping outlets organise pop-ups.
Regardless of whether we IWDDE2023 secure any sponsorship, the campaign will still go ahead as a marketing initiative by Thirstmag and Set the Tables to help promote outlets that wish to take part in a bigger campaign.
However, if we secure sponsorship, IWDDE 2023 will work with brands to shortlist outlets for the pop-ups.
What is the pop-up about?
This year’s idea is to put two outlets together for a collaboration. We are thinking it’d be fun to match one outlet’s drinks with another’s food.
Then for two nights, they set up a pop-up in the other’s outlet an run the collaboration menu.
What will IWDDE 2023 provide outlets that participate?
